The Hitman’s Bodyguard 2 gets a summer 2020 release date. Released in 2017, the first film starred Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson as bickering allies. The action comedy was a success at the box office. Domestically, it earned more than $75 million. Another $101 million was reached internationally, against a budget which was reported to be in the range of $30-69 million. Critically, the reception was more mixed. While the chemistry between the movie’s two leads received praise, reviews largely found that the action scenes of The Hitman’s Bodyguard were dated and unmemorable.



The movie followed Michael Bryce (Reynolds), a protection agent who is suffering through a crisis of confidence after a client is killed under his watch. Eager to do anything to prove that he’s still at the top of his game, he accepts the job of working as a bodyguard for the renowned assassin Darius Kincaid (Jackson). Bryce has to make sure that Kincaid stays alive to testify against a brutal dictator who is on trial at the International Criminal Court.



The only problem is, the bodyguard can’t stand the assassin he’s tasked with protecting and the feeling is mutual. The animosity makes the hurdles they face along the way to Kincaid’s safe delivery all the more difficult. In addition to the comedy’s sparring duo, the cast included game performances from Salma Hayek, Gary Oldman, and Richard E. Grant. With the sequel now getting a release date, many of those big names are set to reprise their roles.
