Mayis Agabaev was born on May 1, 1941 in Baku. In 1961 he graduated from the Azerbaijan State School of Painting. He graduated from the painting department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow in 1969 and began acting as an art director in the Azerbaijanfilm studio. Since 1965 he has participated in several international and republican exhibitions. Since 1996 he has been teaching at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. People's Artist of Azerbaijan (2000)
