Eldar Guliyev was born on January 18, 1941 in Baku. In 1960-1966 educated at Moscow State Institute of Cinematography, Director of Sergei Gerasimov's course. Since 1967 he works at the Azerbaijanfilm studio. His first short film is “Biri vardı, biri yoxdu...”. He is the author of well-known feature and documentary films. In 1969 made his screen debut with “Bir cənub şəhərində” film. This film laid the foundation for a new stage in the Azerbaijani cinema. In 1979, he shot “Babək” and the level of profianalism of this film did not fall behind from the film produced abroad. He also shot the films: “Ən vacib müsahibə”, “Var olun, qızlar...”, “Ürək... Ürək...”, “Nizami”, “Nə gözəldir bu dünya...”, “Girov”, ”İstanbul reysi” and etc. Some of his films have been awarded prizes at film festivals. Art director of "Debut" studio, professor of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Eldar Guliyev died in Baku on 16 April 2021 at the age of 80.
