Yusuf Kenan was born on November 1, 1961 in Mardin, Turkey into a German-Turkish family. His father was a chemistry professor from Germany and graduated from the German Lyceum/İstanbul Özel Alman Lisesi in Istanbul. Studied at Marmara University. At the University of Munich, Germany studied tourism and hotel business. He made his debut in the film "Çaresiz" (1976). The first major role was played in the film "Passion/Tutku" (Sheriff Ali, 1984). The success of Kenan Kalav was brought by the role of Kamran in the television screen of the novel Nuri Gyuntekin's "Kinglet - a songbird" (1986, dir. Osman Seden).
