Martin Scorsese to reunite with Robert De Niro on serial killer film

The next Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio collaboration is said to have signed up Robert De Niro. Titled Killers of the Flower Moon, the project is an adaptation of David Grann’s true-crime thriller.  Scorsese is expected to begin work on the film after completing his forthcoming gangster drama, The IrishmanTulsaWorld reports that filming is scheduled to star in the spring of 2020.




This will mark Scorsese and DiCaprio’s sixth collaboration in 17 years following Gangs of New YorkThe AviatorThe DepartedShutter Islandand The Wolf of Wall Street. Rights to Grann’s book – subtitled The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI – fetched a reported $5m in 2016. The script has been written by Eric Roth, the Oscar-winner behind Forrest Gump and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The non-fiction work documents the string of murders which plagued the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma during the 1920s after oil was found on their land. The case was deemed the FBI’s first homicide investigation. According to the same report, Osage Nation’s Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear revealed that De Niro has agreed to play the role of William Hale.

Scorsese’s next project, The Irishman, marks a Goodfellasreunion with Joe Pesci who stars alongside De Niro. It'll be released on Netflix in November. Killers of the Flower Moon would mark the director's tenth time working with De Niro. DiCaprio – who is also expected to appear in a Scorsese-produced TV series – will next be seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which will be released in the UK on 14 August.
