Already acclaimed thanks to its Sundance launch, Mirrah Foulkes' Judy & Punch will have its European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival's Dare Gala this month. And talking of premieres, Empire is delighted to debut the first trailer and new imagery from the film, which stars Mia Wasikowska and Damon Herriman.
Mia Wasikowska will star in “Judy and Punch,” a reimagining of the classic puppet show, that marks the directorial debut of Australian actress and writer Mirrah Foulkes (“Animal House”). The picture is produced by Vice Media Australia and Nash Edgerton’s Blue Tongue Films.
Blending fantasy and the absurd in a reimagining of Punch and Judy, the story is set in the outlandish town of Seaside, located nowhere near the coast, where puppeteers Judy and Punch are trying to resurrect their marionette show. The show is a hit due to Judy's superior puppeteering, but Punch's driving ambition and penchant for a drink lead to an ill-fated turn of events that Judy must avenge.
Tom Budge, Benedict Hardie and Terry Norris are all also in the cast for the film, which makes its LFF debut on 12 October before arriving in UK cinemas on 22 November.
