Vahid Nakhish

Vahid Nakhish (Vahid Fuad Mustafayev) was born on September 4, 1968 in Baku in the military family. Vahid M., who started his creative activity at a young age, joined the national liberation movement in Azerbaijan in 80s of the last century, began to work as a correspondent and a publisher in 1988, and published a periodical journal called "RokOko" which was considered to be a "secret publication" in the Soviet period due to its lack of official permission. Vahid Mustafayev, who was received into the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (previously called as the Institute of Azerbaijan Construction Engineers) in 1989, organized a non-formal Student Journalists Union which in return resulted in attracting new-minded student reporters studying at the various universities and disseminating the journal among students which became particularly popular among young people. Vahid Mustafayev organized a department called "Youth Bureau" in the first independent “Azerbaijan” newspaper which was published by the national poet and public figure Sabir Rustamkhanli in the broadening period of the national liberation movement in October, 1989 and created “Koroghlu investigation” journal and Video supplement of the newspaper. Vahid M. became the first military reporter of Azerbaijan after the deployment of the troops of the Soviet Army by the Soviet officials under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev for suppressing the national liberation movement in January, 1990. He is the first Azerbaijani reporter of the Karabakh war who continued his shootings several years. Since then, he works as a military reporter in Karabakh and as well as in many hot spots around the world such as Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya and other countries. He prepares reportages face to face with death, and shoots documentary films on conflicts. In 1991, 23 years old Vahid M. created the first private independent television company in the USSR together with his brother Seyfulla Mustafayev and called the company "ANS" which later became a varied multi-media organization. In the beginning of 1992 Vahid M. created another famous media company “ANS PRESS” News Agency which played a prominent role in breaking the information blockade of the country during those years by conveying the truth on Azerbaijan to the whole world. In 1993, 25 years old Vahid M. made another breakthrough by opening the first radio channel in the Caucasus and Central Asia broadcasting on FM waves. He called FM radio as “ANS ChM” for monumentalizing the name of his late brother who was killed during the Karabakh war, a TV reporter, the National Hero of Azerbaijan, Chingiz Mustafayev. Since 1990s, Vahid Mustafayev has been involved in film production and produced “Nobody and nothing will be forgotten” (1992), “Mud-hut” (1993), “Karabakh” (1994), “17 moments of autumn” (1995) and other films based on the scenarios he wrote. Soon Vahid M. became successful with his experience in cinematography and created "BAKIFILM" film studio in 2006. "BAKIFILM" film studio produces feature films and soap operas based on his pieces as “Bulagistan” (2007), “Chosen” (2008), “Ultimate fight” (2009) and others. Vahid M. wrote several pieces reflecting the modern period of the history of Azerbaijan while he was in the hospital after the severe car accident in 2009. A year later, he began to revive these works as a director: “Memory” feature film and a soap opera consisting of 5 episodes (2010), “Khoja” feature film (2011) and a soap opera consisting of 5 episodes (2012), “Aghabayovs” soap opera consisting of 60 episodes (2012-2013), “Bloody January” feature film and a soap opera consisting of 5 episodes (2015). He is one of the few cinematographers representing Azerbaijani cinema in the international arena. His film “Khoja” participated in the international film festivals such as the 35th Cairo (Egypt, 2012), the 31st Fajr (Iran, 2013), and the 43rd “Golden Orange” (Turkey, 2013) and achived successful results. “Bloody January” is the first film of the history of Azerbaijani cinematography participating in the film festivals of four continents (Europe, North America, South America, Asia). This film participated in the international film festivals such as 19th "Black Nights" (Estonia, 2015), 39th Montreal (Canada, 2015), 39th “Mostra” (Brazil, 2015), 46th “Goa” (India, 2015), and 33rd “Fajr” (Iran, 2016) and got various awards. These films which reflect historical events were translated into different languages and served to convey the truth on Azerbaijan to the world. In 2014, Vahid Mustafayev made another breakthrough by establishing “BALANS” National Animation Studio. Within a short period of time as a producer, screenwriter, and stage manager he has been able to create intellectual, legal, edifying, and entertaining animated soap operas, including “A game with the sheep” (12 episodes), “Know” (12 episodes), “Friends” (8 episodes), and “Travellening companion” (24 episodes) for children of different ages. In 2014-2017, Vahid Mustafayev has written lyrics of 30 songs for children and has translated 160 songs for children which are popular in the international arena into Azerbaijani. In 2017, he created “QOBUFILM” film studio in the village of Gobu which is one of the oldest settlements in the Absheron region. The goal of the establishment of this film studio which is engaged in the production of short low budget feature, documentary films, and soap operas in Gobu is to serve the development of the regions of Azerbaijan, to supply the region with the necessary equipment for film production, and to provide amateur and professional residents of Gobu and the surrounding region with trainings and educational programs. Vahid Mustafayev also leaded several successful music projects and is an author of the lyrics of dozens of rock style songs. In 1987, he created and guided the "Charlie Atl" art-rock band which became one of the legends of the Azerbaijani rock, and wrote the lyrics of all the songs performed by the band. Then Vahid M. leads two more rock music project and becomes an author of “Blood group” (2010) and “Mina Sovetski”. He is also a successful businessman. He is an owner of the well-known companies such as VMF, ALLSTAR, and AZMAN and the above mentioned media organizations as well. These companies are distributors of the leading companies which produces the world’s famous precision devices, audiovisual equipments, and other products in Azerbaijan. “OZANS” company which was created in 2017 by him together with his friend Rasim Muzaffarli intends to realise feature production and publication activity, and several innovative projects as well. Vahid M. is constantly searching creativity, development and works on new projects. As a result of his versatile productive work hundreds new job places were created in our country. He has prepared dozens specialists with high professionalism working at the leading media organizations of Azerbaijan. Vahid M. is an athlete. He has participated in Muay Thai Championships which is considered to be an eastern fighting system in the Republic, Europe, and in the world and has got awards. In 2005, he achived the Champion Belt in the city of Bangkok, Thailand. Vahid Mustafayev was awarded with “Progress” medal by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (November 4, 2008, No. 25) for his services in the development of television in Azerbaijan.
