Biography
Gurgen Ovanesovich Tonunts - is a famous Soviet film actor of Armenian origin. Born September 2, 1922 in Tbilisi (Georgia). From 1938 to 1941 he studied at the Murmansk Naval School. Tonunts also worked at a local theater studio. In 1941 he voluntarily went to the front. He served on the SKR-19 defense ship of the Northern Fleet (icebreaker named after Semyon Dezhnev). On August 27, 1942, Gurgen Tonunts was wounded in a battle with the German heavy cruiser "Admiral Scheer" in the port of Dikson. His film debut took place in 1947. In the same year, the Armenian actor entered the directing department of VGIK named after Sergei Gerasimov and studied in the group of Lev Kuleshov. He graduated from education in 1952. From 1952 to 1956 he worked as an actor and director of the Drama Theater of the Kustanai region of Kazakhstan. From 1957 he worked in the theater studio of film actors in Moscow. For the first time in 1957, Gurgen Tonunets became famous for the role of Kamo in the film "Personally Acquainted". In the film, he portrays the Armenian revolutionary Kamo. In the film Can I Forgive Him? (Azerbaijanfilm, 1959), he plays the character of Tarlan. He died on September 21, 1997 in Moscow. The actor was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
