Ramiz Azizbayli was born on July 20, 1948 in the city of Baku. In 1977 he graduated from the "Cultural and Educational" faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts. Since 1962 he began working as an actor in the studio "Azerbaijanfilm". In 1987, he began his directorial career with the short film "Rooster Pirverdi", filmed in the studio "Debut". The film successfully participated in several international film festivals, and at the All-Union festival in Kiev was awarded a prize for the director's debut. In 1991, Ramiz Azizbayli directed a feature film "The Ring of Fortune". The film was remembered as the most prestigious high-grossing and the most profitable movie in theaters. In 2006, Ramiz Azizbayli produced the feature film "Lies", dedicated to the Karabakh war. For his contribution to the development of the Azerbaijani cinema he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan on December 18, 2000, and honorary title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan on August 1, 2008. He is a Presidential Scholar.
