Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt (France as Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt) is a writer and director, known for Temps de chien (1996), Oscar and the Lady in Pink (2009) and Odette Toulemonde (2006). He was born on March 28, 1960 in Lyon, France. Graduated from the École normale supérieure in Paris, receiving a doctorate in philosophy (1985). Born to Alsation parents, working as physical education teachers. Although starting his career as a dramatist, his is best known for his novels such as "Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran" (1999) which was made into "M. Ibrahim and the Flowers of Coran" (2003), and "My life with Mozart”, The Sect of the Egoists ("La Secte des égoïstes", 1994), The Gospel According to Pilate ("L'Évangile selon Pilate", 2000), Grand prix des lectrices de Elle, The Alternative Hypothesis ("La part de l'autre", 2001), When I Was a Work of Art ("Lorsque j'étais une oeuvre d'art", 2002), Ulysses from Baghdad ("Ulysse from Bagdad", 2008). After being an agnostic for years, he has considered himself a Christian.
