Ali made his acting debut in 2008 in the film The Other End of the Line. Filmed exclusively in India for several years. In 2015, he played Safar in the movie Furious 7.

In 2017, he played Abdul Karim in the film Victoria and Abdul. Made it to Variety's "10 Actors to Watch" list at the Hampton International Film Festival.
