Nephew of musician Rudy Ventura and cousin of actress and singer Yolanda Ventura. He is married to actress Carmen Balague and they have two children. As a young man, Oristrel studied philosophy and literature and made his debut as a screenwriter in the television competition Un, dos, tres.
