Dunya Smirnova was born on June 29, 1969 in Moscow, RSFSR, USSR as Avdotya Andreevna Smirnova. She is a writer and director, known for История одного назначения (2018), Два дня (2011) and Кококо (2012). She has been married to Anatoliy Chubays since January 17, 2012. She was previously married to Arkadiy Ippolitov. Daughter of actress Natalya Rudnaya and director Andrey Smirnov, the filmmaker of Белорусский вокзал (1971). Has a son, Danila Ippolitov (b. 1990, is a footballer), with her ex-husband Arkadiy Ippolitov. Dropped out of Moscow University School of Journalism.
