The upcoming Matrix 4 has added a new castmember, Aquaman and The Greatest Showman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Variety reports that the actor has landed one of the lead roles in the film, alongside returning franchise stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
While details of his role have not yet been revealed, Variety does add that there have been rumours a young Morpheus could appear in the movie. The Matrix 4 was announced in August, with Warner Bros confirming that Lana Wachowski was on board to write and direct.
At the time, Warner Bros Studios boss Toby Emmerich said: "We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana.
"Lana is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe." As for what the plot will be, the only hint we have is Lana saying she is currently adapting concepts she previously developed with sister Lilly Wachowski for a new screenplay in collaboration with The Lazarus Project author Aleksandar Hemon and writer David Mitchell.
"Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now," Lana said. "I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends."
