Fast & Furious Writer Has Met With Reeves About Possible Role

26 October, 2019

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw
writer Chris Morgan has met with Keanu Reeves about the actor possibly taking a role in a future movie in the action franchise. With $5.8 billion in the bank, Fast & Furious has indeed become one of the biggest movie franchises in the world. In 2019, the universe expanded into new territory with the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, which itself took in a robust $758 million worldwide.

Fans of all the fast and furious action offered by the long-running series were certainly happy with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's teaming in Hobbs & Shaw, but the movie could've been even more exciting with the addition of Reeves, who was at one time in talks to join the film as the leader of the terrorist organization Eteon. However, as Johnson himself recently revealed, Reeves ultimately couldn't do the film and the decision was made to leave Eteon's director as just a disembodied voice. Johnson did indicate that the door was still open on Reeves joining the Fast & Furious universe somewhere down the line, setting up the enticing possibility of the Matrix and John Wick star joining yet another action-heavy franchise.

Speaking to Screen Rant ahead of the Hobbs & Shaw home release, long-time franchise writer Morgan confirmed again that there have been talks with Reeves about joining the family. He said: I sat down with him and we’re talking about. I wanted him to be in the Fast universe for a very long time. We’re just trying to find... the hardest thing is always time and competing schedules and then designing the right thing together. My fervent desire is to bring him into this franchise for sure.”

Reeves indeed is a very in-demand actor these days, with roles lined up in the sequel John Wick: Chapter 4, as well as The Matrix 4 and Bill & Ted Face the Music. That Reeves has been so busy lately is further testament to the career rebound the actor has enjoyed ever since John Wick put him back on the map as an action star after a long downturn in his fortunes. Of course, the internet never stopped loving Reeves, and has continued demonstrating its affection for the actor via memes and other tributes the likes of which only the internet could fashion. Given how full his dance card has been of late, Reeves surely does not need the Fast & Furious franchise, and certainly Fast & Furious does not need him. Nevertheless, it would be fun to see Reeves lend his special presence to the Fast & Furious universe, and it certainly seems that both parties wish to make such a teaming happen. Perhaps Reeves could sneak into the next movie in the series, Fast & Furious 9, which is already underway with Vin Diesel heading up the cast.
