Theo James (born December 16, 1984) is an English actor, best known for portraying the role of Tobias "Four" Eaton in the film adaptations of The Divergent Series. He played Detective Walter William Clark, Jr. in the crime-drama series Golden Boy (2013), and David in the films Underworld: Awakening (2012) and Underworld: Blood Wars (2016). James was born in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, UK. He grew up in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He is the son of Jane (née Martin), who worked for the National Health Service, and Philip Taptiklis, a business consultant. James has two older brothers and two older sisters. His paternal grandfather was Greek (he moved from the Peloponnese to New Zealand). His other ancestry is English and Scottish. He attended Aylesbury Grammar School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Nottingham. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. In 2012 he appeared in ITV's Case Sensitive starring Olivia Williams and Darren Boyd. He was named a "Star of Tomorrow" in 2009 by Screen International. In 2013, James starred alongside Chi McBride in the American drama series, "Golden Boy" which aired for one season. James played the male lead, Tobias "Four" Eaton, in the film adaptation of Veronica Roth's Divergent (2014). James reprised the character in the sequel to Divergent, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, which began filming in May 2014 and was released in March 2015. In 2015, he became the brand ambassador for Hugo Boss fragrances for men, appearing in print ads and commercials. James starred alongside Amber Heard, Billy Bob Thornton and Jim Sturgess in the film adaptation of London Fields, and in the indie drama Franny, alongside Richard Gere and Dakota Fanning. He returned in one more Divergent film, The Divergent Series: Allegiant (2016). He reprised his character David in the fifth Underworld film, that time as the film's male lead.
