Imran Gasimov
Screenwriter, playwright
Imran Hashim oglu Gasimov Azerbaijani Soviet writer, playwright, screenwriter. Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1959), People's Writer of the Azerbaijan SSR (1979). Imran Ashum oglu Kasumov was born on November 25, 1918 in Baku in an intellectual family. His namesake uncle along participated in the establishment and development of the Azerbaijan National Musical Theater alongside with Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Sarabsky, Abbas Mirza Sharifzadeh. His grandfather, Haji Kasumov, was one of the first Azerbaijani engineers who had higher education in St. Petersburg. Imran still in school years began to attend various literary circles. In 1934, he graduated from high school. In the same year he entered the philological faculty of the Azerbaijan State University. In 1938 he studied at the Higher Courses of Scriptwriters in Moscow. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1946. After completing the courses he worked for some time in Moscow. After returning to Baku, he worked as the first deputy minister of cinematography of the Azerbaijan SSR, chief editor of the Literary Azerbaijan magazine. In 1975-1981 he worked as the first secretary of the Union of Writers of the Azerbaijan SSR. He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 9 - 10th convocations. He died April 20, 1981 in Baku.
