Øvredal received his BA from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, USA and has directed numerous commercials. Future Murder was the first feature film that Øvredal worked on as a director. In addition, he acted as a screenwriter and producer of the film. A few years later, Øvredal would take over the production of a short film called Help Desk.
