Negahban was born in Mashhad, Iran. At the age of eight, he fell in love with acting in the theater, drawing laughter from large audiences with his portrayal of an old man. At the age of twenty, he left Iran for Turkey and then to Germany, where he spent eight and a half years. In Germany, he worked in a theater troupe, and then in 1993 he moved to the United States. Negahban is fluent in English, Persian, Dari and German.
