Call of the Wild Trailer Brings Jack London’s Book to Life

22 November, 2019

20th Century Fox has revealed the first trailer for The Call of the Wild. This is the latest adaptation of the classic Jack London novel of the same name. It's been brought to the big screen several times before, but never quite like this. And not just because we have an icon like Harrison Ford in the lead role, but because he's partnered up with a CGI dog to bring the tale to life for modern moviegoers.

The trailer opens up with some stunning landscape shots of the frozen landscape in the Yukon, with some narration that helps to set up the Harrison Ford character, who just wants to be left alone. His life changes when he meets Buck, a dog who has had a varied life, both good and bad. The two become pals and decide to go on an adventure together. Rather delightfully, after quite a few big set pieces and some dramatic moments out in nature, the whole thing climaxes with Ford roaring at a bear, which might alone be worth the price of admission.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway here is that this particular take on the source material is larger in scope. Lots of big set pieces. Lots of action. It's big. There is certainly a minimalistic way to interpret Jack London's legendary book for the screen, and that has certainly been done. It appears the creative team was hoping to try something a bit more extravagant. That creative team consists of director Chris Sanders (The CroodsHow to Train Your Dragon) and writer Michael Green (LoganBlade Runner 2049).

In addition to the trailer, the studio has also released a new poster, which we've also included for you to check out. The rest of the cast includes Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast), Omar Sy (Jurassic World), Karen Gillan (Avengers: Endgame), Bradley Whitford (Get Out) and Colin Woodell (The Purge). Disney, after merging with Fox, has suffered a string of flops. Harrison Ford is quite the star, but this looks like an expensive endeavor. Will this pay off? Or will it be another financial mess that Disney has to clean up? The Call of the Wild is set to hit theaters on February 21, 2020, from 20th Century Fox
