Hellboy is one of several superhero movies releasing in 2019

12 March, 2019

David Harbour is on horseback in new images of the Hellboy reboot. After showing up briefly in the first trailer for the film, some characters taken straight out of the comics - alongside the titular Hellboy himself - are shown in clearer detail in a handful of new photos.

Over a decade after Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Neil Marshall's reboot is revisiting the half-demon hero from creator Mike Mignola with a fresh coat of paint. With Stranger Things' David Harbour taking over from Ron Perlman in the lead role,

Hellboy is giving the source material another go at a live-action origin story, this time pitting Hellboy against an ancient sorceress known as Nimue the Blood Queen (Milla Jovovich). Expected to tackle elements that are decidedly more mature than the past two films from del Toro with its R ratingHellboy also stars Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, and Daniel Dae Kim. Now, with the film nearing its release, some new photos offer a closer look at some characters introduced in the trailer.

With anticipation building, Hellboy is just one of several superhero movies releasing in 2019. In fact, 2019 will feature the most superhero movies released ever in a single year - 11 in total. As it so happens, it'll be opening up just two weeks before Avengers: Endgame, roughly a month after Captain Marvel, and just a week after Shazam!, so the reboot has plenty of competition.

The official Hellboy Twitter account posted a handful of photos showing Hellboy in the company of some of the film's characters - and some horses, too. In one photo, he's even riding one of the horses alongside a group of characters called the Wild Hunt who look as though they've been pulled straight out of The Adventures of Robin Hood. The other photos reveal Lane's Alice Monaghan in the background, while another shows McShane's Professor Bruttenholm, who was originally played by the late John Hurt. Check out the tweet below to see the images:

Mixing medieval inspiration with some modern technology, the Wild Hunt are more than happy to work side-by-side with Hellboy to rid the world of monsters. That said, being something of a monster himself, it'll be interesting to see how exactly their relationship plays out. Hellboy is no stranger to shaky relationships - just look at the tension in that photo with Bruttenholm - and there is every reason to believe that this applies just as much to his work relationships as it does any other.
